Pupils of Room 4 have been sharing their dream jobs when they grow up. We discovered that we have lots of students interested in being builders and engineers. Shapes are significant to these jobs, and they are keen to learn more to help build a foundation for their dream job.
We discovered that shapes have:
-
Sides/ edges
-
Vertices / corners
-
Equal sides
-
Horizontal and vertical lines
-
Parallel sides
-
Faces
-
Can be different sizes
-
Can be different colours
It was interesting to see how the groups participated and contributed to sorting the shapes into different groups.
We have sorted our shapes into colours and biggest to smallest.
Ours is sorted in smallest to biggest in a line and colour coordinated.
We sorted our shapes into regular and irregular shapes.
An equilateral triangle is the same that means that all the sides are equal.
We are taking the engineering jobs seriously and creating our own buildings, and objects by tracing the shapes to create our designs.
In our reading groups, we are looking at how to construct bridges and what shapes are best to use to make it strong. So far we have discovered the importance of triangles and how they can hold and support a lot of weight.
