Important notice
In the local papers and on our website will be a notification that Wairakei Primary will not be balloting for Out-of-Zone students until at least Term Four, 2024. This is across all age levels. There will be notification regarding the resumption of balloting for Out-of-Zone students.
The Board and I have decided this, due to the start of the renovation of Rooms 9, 10 and 11. This is a major renovation that will take at least 14 weeks. From July, the car park by the hall will also be out of action. The materials and vehicles will be enclosed in the safety area that will use the car parks along the fence behind these rooms.
This renovation does impact the spaces we have for incoming new entrants. The staff in this area are talking with parents and whanau about individual options.
Board Update
Kia ora, My name is Chris Te Whare, (Presiding Member - Chair) for Wairakei Primary School Board of Trustees. With an election occurring in May 2025, the board is looking for interested members of the community to stand in the election. The best way to transition a new board member is for them to come to meetings to get a feel for how the board operates.
We meet 8-10 times a year, to work as a team on school business, including Finances, Property, Policies, the school direction and Charter. All of these areas form the basis of all decision making.
If you are interested you are invited to drinks and nibbles Tuesday, June 18, 2024 5p.m. in the school staffroom to meet the Board and hear why they do this important role. The regular meeting starts at 5.30p.m. and you are invited to stay as an observer.
Before school
I have noticed an increasing amount of students arriving before the first bus. Teachers need this time to prepare for the day ahead. Drop off at school should be from 8.10a.m. each day.
2024 Whānau Matariki Competition
In conjunction with Oruanui Marae, the full school will celebrate Matariki in Week 8, June 24-27, with a range of shared activities ending with a full school assembly and Jumping June on Friday June 27. This is a whole community event with our special invited guests turning the skipping rope.
We invite whānau to work alongside their child/ren to learn about one of the Matariki stars, as well as their meaning, and present the learning for others to enjoy. It could be a powerpoint, a game, maybe in Minecraft. This is completely individual choice. The more interesting it is and well presented the more points are earned in the competition.
Last year the judges saw a range of board games, mobiles, posters, and books - the creativity flowed.
- Pick only one star to present
- Make sure this is identified in the first part of the presentation
- Information should be in your own words, not just copied and pasted from the Internet
- Points given for use of design tools and creativity
Reminder
School is closed Friday, May 31 for Teacher Only Day.
Place this event in your calendar, as we build towards retaining the Inter–school Cross Country title.
